Oral History Project at Harvard Extension School

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Dear HUNAP alum,

My name is Zach Nowak, and I am a current Lecturer in the Harvard Extension School. I am looking for Native alums of Harvard and Radcliffe who would like to take part in an oral history project.

This coming semester I’ll be teaching my course on the history of Harvard College, E-HIST 1636: Intro to Harvard History. While there are excellent first-hand narratives of college life at Harvard and Radcliffe (some of which my past students collected), there are very few first-hand accounts of Native alumni/ae. As part of the course requirements, my Harvard Extension School students will record an oral history with an alum, transcribe it, and then deposit a copy printed on archival cotton paper in the Harvard University Archives. This will give the students a much better history of the Native experience at our institutions (both Harvard and Radcliffe) and get more voices into the Archives. We expect the time commitment to be no more than two hours and you can review the transcription before it is deposited.

If you are interested in getting your story added to the Harvard University Archives, fill out the interest/sign-up form. You can also  contact me at znowak@fas.harvard.edu for more information.

My very best,
Zach
