Dear Students,

Welcome to the Fall 2020 semester!  This academic year marks the 50th anniversary of HUNAP.  In the Fall of 1970, eleven Native American students began their courses at the Harvard Graduate School of Education as part of the newly created American Indian Program (AIP).  Since then, the program and our community has grown to encompass every school at Harvard and an ever growing global alumni network of over 1300 individuals.  We are delighted to welcome new students to this community and welcome back our returning students.

The start to this academic year is a new experience for us all.  Instead of physically welcoming you to campus, we will be virtually welcoming a community that is spread across the country and beyond.  Although we are not currently able to meet and gather in person, we will be hosting a number of virtual events throughout the Fall semester.  Each week, you will receive an email from us with upcoming events and important news items.  HUNAP will also host weekly Student Hours via Zoom for check-ins and information sharing.

This semester, the HUNAP staff will be working remotely from home and the HUNAP office on the 4th Floor of 14 Story Street will be unavailable for any in person visits or use.  The building will remain locked for the duration of the semester and all Harvard ID access is disabled until university guidelines allow for use of the building.  HUNAP staff will be available via email and phone and contact information is listed below.  We encourage you to reach out to us throughout the semester with any questions, concerns, or suggestions.

Our Fall 2020 Welcome Event will take place via Zoom on Friday, September 18 from 4-5pm Eastern Time.  Please mark your calendars now and plan to join us as we share some of the cultural diversity of our community.

We also encourage you to check out our newly updated website at www.hunap.harvard.edu.  You can find information on courses, faculty news, HUNAP resources, and upcoming events.  You can also follow us on Instagram (@harvardnatives) and Twitter (@Harvard_Natives) or join us on Facebook (@HarvardNatives).

We look forward to seeing you virtually in the coming weeks.

Welcome to Fall 2020,
