HUNAP celebrated the graduation of twenty students with faculty remarks by Professor Shawon Kinew.

As part of an annual tradition, the HUNAP community came together to recognize the achievements of the Class of 2021. This year, twenty graduates choose to celebrate with HUNAP through various graduation activities. They represented seven graduating students from Harvard College, and various graduates of Harvard's professional and graduate degree programs.

To mark the occasion, HUNAP organized an event with a tribal welcome, which was given by the Masschusett Tribe at Ponkapag and an opening prayer that was delivered by graduating student, Eli Langley. Eli is the last college student at Harvard who has used his/her/their Indigenous language to satisfy the language requirement of Harvard College.

Professor Joseph P. Gone, HUNAP faculty director, also offered remarks to the graduating class.

Alumni organizations were also represented in the program with the Native American Alumni of Harvard University (NAAHU) and Harvard Alumni for Oceani (HAO) in attendance.

Students selected Professor Shawon Kinew (Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation, Treaty 3 Anishinaabe First Nation), History of Art and Architecture, to give faculty remarks, which you can view above.

A "honoring of students" wrapped up the event with each graduate given a chance to address the HUNAP community, give out thank yous, and send out updates on what the future holds for them.

Congratulations, Class of 2021!
