Join Pounamu Jade Aikman, Harvard University, University of Hawai'i for "Ungrounded Sovereignty: The nexus between Indigenous Sovereignty and Settler State Violence in Aotearoa New Zealand."
Dr Pounamu Jade Aikman is an independent Māori scholar whose work explores the continuum of settler colonial violence in Aotearoa New Zealand. He completed degrees in Māori Studies (BA Hons) and Anthropology (MA) at the University of Otago, before receiving his doctorate in Pacific Studies from the Australian National University. His research investigates the impact of settler colonialism on Indigenous communities, combining ethnography and historical material to do so. He is the 2021 recipient of New Zealand's Fulbright-Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Scholar Award, and is being hosted both at Harvard University and the University of Hawai'i.
